Ontario is rolling out incentive funding to attract personal support workers (PSWs) to home and community care sectors.
- Graduate Commitment Reward: Recent PSW graduates are eligible for $10,000 if they commit to working for 12 months in these sectors, retroactive to April 1, 2023.
- Extended Opportunities: Current PSWs in the six-month PSW Return of Service (PSWROS) program may be eligible for an additional $5,000 incentive.
- Stipends for Students: PSW students can receive up to $5,500 as a stipend during their clinical placement.

Purpose of Job:
To provide in home health care to Nightingale Nursing Registry Ltd.(NNR) clients. The community health nurse employed within an official health agency functions as an internal consultant to the employing agency and provides nursing and community health consultation to colleagues, other disciplines, agency administration, and other health and human service agencies and/or community groups as a representative of the agency.
Education:
Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
Attributes:
Must be mature and possess good communication, leadership and interpersonal skills. Must be in good physical and mental health. Must be knowledgeable in nursing process, developments and trends in community nursing and have the skill to assist in the planning, co-ordination and supervision of a comprehensive care program.
Responsibilities:

- Ensure pertinent legislated standards and requirements are implemented with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with standards of Practice established by the College of Nurses of Ontario and Nightingale policies and procedures.
- Train, supervise and assist in the performance evaluation of un-regulated care providers.
- Dispense Medications and provide direct Nursing care as instructed by the Director of Nursing or Nursing Supervisor through individualize client care plans.
- Delegate responsibilities appropriate to the provision of quality nursing care to un-regulated care providers in accordance with their job description.
- As a member of the Multidisciplinary Care Team assist in the development and maintenance of an appropriate plan of care for each client.
- Ensure that accurate and complete documentation of nursing observations and client health status and changes to client care plan.
- Be available to cover shifts when necessary in accordance with on-call policy.
- Ensure compliance with all Nightingale related Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Represent the company in a professional manner at all times, on and off duty.
- Perform other related duties within your scope of practice as required.

Primary Duties

As a Personal Support Worker you will:
- Provide personal care to clients in their home or residential facility with compassion and dignity
- Assist clients with personal care tasks of daily living
- Protect the health and safety of yourself and others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately. Always maintain confidentiality
- Observe, document and report any changes in the client’s condition
- Other duties relevant to the job as assigned
Qualifications
As a Personal Support Worker, you must have:
- PSW/DSW/PA+2 Certificate or OTA/PTA Certificate or HCA Certificate or Nursing Student or Retired Nurse
- Foreign Trained Nurse/Mid Wife or Physicians Degree/Certificated
- Current CPR Level C and First Aid
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle
- Current Vulnerable Sector check screening is required upon hire
- Available to work every other weekend
- Ability to work independently or well as part of a team
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to travel from client to client within the community
