Immunization Services for Your Convenience

Wondering when flu season is? Did you know that “flu” is short for influenza? Flu season typically begins in the late fall (November) and continues throughout the months January and February. Though we may think that the flu only occurs in the winter months, it has the ability to appear as early as October and could stay until late May. If you do get the “seasonal flu,” it usually lasts 1-2 weeks. However, if the illness escalates, it can lead to a more serious respiratory virus. Pneumonia and dehydration are the most common side effects of the Influenza virus and can be considered lethal in extreme cases.

Nightingale’s team of professional registered nurses is able to provide you with the information and vaccination you need to reduce your chances of catching the flu. Seniors over the age of 65 are at extreme risk of the flu leading to pneumonia. The flu is a lingering virus transferred in droplet form that can easily be caught by touching an infected surface, spreading the germs to your eyes, nose, or mouth. Washing your hands is a priority during flu season to reduce the spread of infection.

Nightingale Nursing Registry Ltd. is a Ministry of Health-approved provider to administer the flu vaccine, as early as mid-October, in a number of settings, or at a time convenient for you. Not comfortable leaving your home? The Nightingale team has scheduled vaccinations in clients’ homes and has set up portable clinics for larger groups at such places like the Peterborough Rotary Club, on-site at corporate offices, or in a third-party rented room.
